At last.....my community has come along

Before I even started this journey, friends and I have often discussed how important communities are in this modern world and how we need to be gently reminded sometimes and actively seek others who share something that brings us together or makes us feel connected. In my spare time, I'm the events manager for the Big Apple Brits Community and this site is living proof of a successful expat community here in NYC. BUT tonight I found mine in the sense of the creative community world, the start of being surrounded by supportive, collaborative, motivated artists... and just round the corner from my apartment!

I officially become a member of the Hoboken Co-operative Arts Gallery. "Hob-art" (for short) tonight when I attended their members meeting as a newbie! Feeling nervous, I walked into this room of about 20 people sitting in a circle critiquing a fellow artists work...supporting and offering feedback and genuinely interested in her artistic process. This was just the beginning, the "agenda" unravelled to display a list of activities, gallery shows, open discussions and exciting upcoming events to get involved in and show work at! "I may be showing my work in a few months?" I whispered to myself in my head of course! but wow! talk about one almighty springboard! So yes I'm excited to say this has been a very productive and inspiring evening. :-)

Bursting with Creativity

I'm so excited and proud of myself.... I really feel like im making some headway and now I'm trying my best to focus as I have soooo many ideas. I've completed a few paintings yay! and just love the wood panels i got from Utrecht. I'm still keeping to my little artist schedule and yes there is only a week left of August! So here we go a few scans of my first paintings. "Catch the Wisdom" above and "Wisdom leaves" below.... The original paintings and prints will be available in my shop when that launches later in September, watch this space!

I love Yogi tea, so for those of you who love it too, you will recognise the quotes.... so inspiring. (also having challenges with the scanner but that's another story!).

Great Californian Wedding was had!

Last weekend i got out of NYC to spend the weekend in Sonoma for a friends wedding, it was blissful, spending the time relaxing in the sunshine away from the hustle and bustle of too much going on. The wedding was wonderful and i just love the photos posted by the wedding photographer of the day here.

I was pretty inspired by some of the gorgeous scenes so watch this space for some wedding inspired art (when i get the time! ugh)

The Beginning of Something!

I'm starting to unearth whats inside - at last! In the spirit of Creative Thursday (thanks Marisa) I've been listening to some of her great podcasts and exploring even more ideas... Here's just one below I started which was inspired by the wonderful work of Cathy Nichols. One of my next steps is to work out how to best scan my art as i develop it! I have discovered that i need to work on smaller pieces and next week im going to try out wood! The photo below is not great quality and the piece isnt quite finished so ill share again once complete!

Day in Sag Harbour

Lovely day in Sag Harbour...took a few photos and sat overlooking the water to get some ideas down in a little sketch book. A super day to relax and take a step away to really think things through. I wasnt too happy with my first attempts of mixed media so avoided beating myself up and understanding this is a process, to reconnect with my creative self and to be patient and let it flow.... I know its in there, but its been a flickering light for so long it needs alot more fuel to burn bright!
